Star Wars: The Last Jedi is STILL on Netflix, and it’s not on Disney Plus! Watch Episode VIII on Netflix before you watch Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Millions of Star Wars fans will be flocking to theaters this week and throughout the holiday season to see Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Many of those fans will probably be binge-watching the entire franchise on Disney Plus before heading out to theaters.

If you fall into those categories, we have some news for you. Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is not on Disney Plus. Because of a streaming deal between Netflix and Disney, which owns Star Wars, The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, is only streaming on Netflix. You’ll need Netflix to stream The Last Jedi before heading out to see The Rise of Skywalker in the theater.

The Last Jedi won’t be on Netflix for long, though. The film is scheduled to leave Netflix on Christmas Day, and then it will be moving to Disney Plus on Dec. 26, 2019. Christmas Day is the final day you can watch the film on Netflix.

There’s been a lot of discussion, too much probably, about The Last Jedi and Johnson’s take on Star Wars as a whole. As I’ve mentioned before, I really don’t understand the “controversy” about The Last Jedi. It’s not without flaws, but it’s better than all three Star Wars prequels and Solo: A Star Wars Story. I also understand that it’s a different take on the story than people would have liked, and it’s fair to criticize a movie for that reason. It’s not exactly what some fans might have been expecting.

To me, the movie does a good job of moving this story forward, trying to do something new, and setting up the future of the franchise. We don’t know if Johnson’s vision will last through The Rise of Skywalker or what’s in store for the franchise in the future, but at least there was an attempt to look past the hitting the same story beats over and over.

That’s why I like the movie. We can disagree. I’ll be watching The Last Jedi on Netflix — and loving it! — before watching the new Star Wars movie in theaters!

The Last Jedi is leaving Netflix on Dec. 26, 2019. Watch the hit film before it leaves the streaming service.
