5. The Christmas Chronicles

This may not be a Netflix original movie, but The Christmas Chronicles is an underrated gem! And, as we all know, unappreciated movies usually go to Netflix, where they find more love. This holiday film debuted on the streaming service on Nov. 22, just in time for Thanksgiving to help audiences settle into the Christmas spirit.

The Christmas Chronicles has a 64% fresh score from critics at Rotten Tomatoes, but 78% from viewers. If you ask me, it is the audience score that counts. Since this movie beat the holiday rush at Netflix, it may have fallen under your radar this holiday season. So while The Grinch and other more popular classics are taking all of the attention, don’t forget about this one!

If this is the first you hear about the movie, we’ll catch you up! The Christmas Chronicles stars the amazing Kurt Russell as the jolly man himself, Santa Claus! In the movie, brother and sister duo Kate and Teddy put together a plan to catch Santa as he is coming down the chimney. Don’t worry too much about Santa, all Kate and Teddy are trying to do is prove that the generous man is real.

Predictably, Kate and Teddy’s plan does not work out. Instead, the brother and sister are racing against the clock to save Christmas. Though the plot of saving Christmas may seem tired, it’s Russell who freshens it up and gives audiences a great time. Who doesn’t love Russell? The family can bond over which Kurt Russell movie is their favorite.

For some holiday spirit and family bonding, watch The Christmas Chronicles with everyone in the family. This is also great to play for the kids as adults make Christmas preparations.
