Stranger Things ranks in the top 20 of the 2019 FanSided 250, and it ranks no. 2 behind Game of Thrones among the top TV fandoms of the year!
Stranger Things is, once again, one of the top fandoms, according to the FanSided 250, an annual ranking of the most popular fandoms across entertainment, sports, and pop culture.
In the ranking of the top 250 fandoms of the year, Stranger Things ranks no. 20 behind Marvel, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones. Among all entertainment picks, which include film, TV, and music, the series ranks no. 8.
Most importantly, among TV fandoms, Stranger Things ranks no. 2 behind Game of Thrones.
While I’m biased as a Stranger Things fan, this list gets it right for the Netflix original series. With its third season added to Netflix this July, Stranger Things was easily one of the biggest shows of the year. If not for Game of Thrones and its final season, Stranger Things likely would have been the most talked-about show of the year.
This should be no surprise to any fans of the series or anyone paying attention to pop culture over the last few years. Stranger Things has quickly risen through the ranks of TV fandom, and now, it’s the most popular current show in the world.
With Game of Thrones off the air, there’s nothing stopping the series from becoming the biggest show on the list of the FanSided 250 in the future. Unfortunately, it’s probably not going to be next year, and that’s because it’s very unlikely that we’ll see a new season of the Netflix series before next year’s FanSided 250.
Stranger Things 4 starts production in January 2020, and it’s scheduled to run through August, which means we’ll probably see the new season in 2021. Of course, we should expect the series to be included in the next FanSided 250, but it might not get that big release bump from fans to boost this show into the top 20 of all fandoms and up to the no. 1 TV fandom.
We’ll let you know more about the new season when we find out!
Several other Netflix shows made the FanSided 250 this year, including The OA, Orange is the New Black, BoJack Horseman, and The Crown.
