Into The Dark: A Nasty Piece Of Work isn’t the kind of Christmas story you tell to the kids, but it’s definitely one every working person can relate to. Spoilers ahead!

While Christmas-themed episodes tend to be bright and cheery, that’s certainly not the case for Into The Dark: A Nasty Piece Of Work. It’s not depressing or sad in any regard, the episode merely hits on a sensitive note that a lot of working Americans deal with during the holidays, Christmas bonuses.

Most people expect their bosses to give them a bonus as a token of their appreciation, though not everyone is that lucky. Sometimes, bosses even stiff their employees while they themselves accept a larger paycheck. Such a practice is unethical and frowned upon, but it happens.

Into The Dark: A Nasty Piece Of Work gives us a glimpse into this reality when Ted (Kyle Howard) learns his boss has cut everyone’s Christmas bonus. Ted’s boss informs his employees of the unfortunate circumstances as if they affect him too. Of course, everyone knows the corporate heads aren’t losing a cent.

The rest of A Nasty Piece Of Work is just as dehumanizing to Ted, making it seem like a story all about his suffering. Everything seems to be about his flailing journey until a gun is dropped into his lap. Ted is then given a chance to move up in the world or go back to his mediocre life. But before he can decide, Ted’s wife steps in and pulls the trigger for him.

It was a big surprise considering Tatum (Angela Sarafyan) seemed like the most indecisive person in their party. Tatum also suggested that they leave on several occasions, yet she was the one to kill Ted’s boss. The evolution in her character-arc didn’t make sense but there’s no point in arguing about it now.

Apart from this M. Night Shyamalan-like ending, A Nasty Piece Of Work made for a fairly entertaining episode. It wasn’t as good as last year’s Pooka, but the Christmas-themed installment is worth checking out if you can’t find something else to watch over the holidays.
