Watch Stranger Things star David Harbour as the Red Guardian in the first trailer for Marvel’s Black Widow, coming to theaters in May 2020.

It’s been five months since many of us saw Chief Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, vanish in the season finale of Stranger Things 3, and we’ve spent those months wondering what happened to him. While we still don’t have any clarity on that, we can see Harbour in his next project, Marvel’s Black Widow.

Marvel just shared the first official teaser trailer for Black Widow, which premieres in theaters on May 1, 2020.

In the teaser, fans get the first look at Harbour’s character Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, who is basically the Russian version of Captain America. The suit is similar, and he even has a shield! Comic fans know Natasha Romanoff and Alexei were married, but it does not seem like that is the case in the new film, which takes place around the time of Captain America: Civil War, according to Esquire.

I’d also like to point how the coincidence of Harbour playing a character named Alexei, who is Russian, immediately after a Russian character, named Alexei, became a fan favorite in Stranger Things 3. Okay, moving on!

In the trailer, it looks like Harbour’s character hasn’t put on the red suit in a while, and he doesn’t appear to be in the best shape. But, he’s willing to strap up to stop whatever Natasha Romanoff has returned to Russia to fight.

To me, it looks like Harbour’s character will play more of a fatherly role to Romanoff and this newly assembled team in the film. We expect the film will explore Natasha’s past in the KGB and her life before she became an Avenger.

Harbour puts on the red suit and sits down at the table with Natasha, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), also known as the Iron Maiden, and says “Family. Back together again.”

Surprisingly, we still don’t know a lot about this film. Early in the trailer, in her voice-over, Natasha says, “We have to go back to where it all started,” and that appears to be the red room, where all these agents were trained. We still don’t know why she takes on this mission, but it has to be important.
