When is 13 Reasons Why season 4 coming to Netflix? What will happen in the new season? We answer that and more!

It’s been a few months since the release of 13 Reasons Why season 3, and now, fans are trying to find more information about the new season. Luckily, we can help!

For those who don’t know,13 Reasons Why is coming back for season 4. Netflix renewed the series for a fourth season heading into season 3.

Here’s what we know about season 4 so far:

13 Reason Why season 4 release date

Netflix finally announced the 13 Reasons Why season 4 release date! The new season hits the streaming service on Friday, June 5, 2020.

13 Reasons Why season 4 started filming in August 2019. If you’re hoping to see season 4 in 2020, you might be in luck. With starting production in August, there should be enough time to get the season done in time for a 2020 release.

Generally, the production of a season of Netflix show like 13 Reasons Why, which is 10+ episodes, takes about half of a year. Then, it takes another four to six months to be edited and promoted. If that’s the case for 13 Reasons Why season 4, we would have likely see the new season in the fall of 2020.

We were expecting the new season would be released in September or October 2020. That seemed like a good time to release the new season of the hit Netflix series.

Luckily, the gap between seasons is shorter than in past seasons, so we don’t have to wait that long to see the final season of the Netflix original series.

13 Reasons Why season 4 cast

In the trailer announcing the release date, it looked like most of the cast from season 3 were present for the table read. It also looked like a few of the characters from previous seasons might be back for the final season, as well.

Most of the stars of 13 Reasons Why season 3 should be back in the new season, including Dylan Minnette, Alisha Boe, Brandon Flynn, Christian Navarro, Miles Heizer, Ross Butler, Devin Druid, Amy Hargreaves, Derek Luke, Kate Walsh, Grace Saif, Ross Pellegrino, Anne Winters, Steven Weber, and more.

There’s also a good chance we’ll see Deaken Bluman, who played Winston, because he was an integral part of the final scene of season 3.

According to a report from Deadline, Gary Sinise will also star in season 4. Clay begins attending therapy sessions with a family therapist, played by Sinise in the new season.

I don’t think we’ll see Katherine Langford, Timothy Granaderos, or Justin Prentice unless it’s in flashbacks.

13 Reasons Why season 4 plot

There are so many characters interacting in the small world of this show, which means there are infinite directions the show could move in the new season. I see the story largely focusing on one of the final scenes of season 3.

As you will recall, Bryce Walker was killed in the third season, and we didn’t know who did it. That was the focus of the third season. Everything revolved around their interactions with Bryce.

Now, Bryce is gone, and Monty, who is also dead, is the main suspect. Since he’s not alive to defend himself, it seems like the case is closed.

At the end of the season, though, Winston confronts Ani about the story she shaped. He was with Monty when Bryce died, so he knows someone else committed the crime. If he comes forward, that could mean bad news for most of these characters.

We don’t really know what will happen yet. There’s bound to be more drama with these characters, especially with all the lies told throughout the season. Many of those will likely come into the light.

Season 4 should wrap up any loose ends with this series, and we’ll tell you why.

13 Reasons Why Final Season

Unfortunately for fans of the series, 13 Reasons Why will end after season 4. Netflix announced the news that the series would end when the series was renewed for season 4.

It makes sense why this show would end now. After the first season, which was recently altered by Netflix, there was a lot of pushback in making the second and third season of the show. The way the show presents certain elements is problematic, overall, but there are fans of the show, and that’s why this show has been brought back for the third and fourth seasons.

With that said, there’s probably more story to tell here. As mentioned, there was a pretty dramatic shift in storytelling in the third season. It became almost like a whodunit of sorts, and that worked okay for the third season. It will be interesting, without that level of mystery, how the show will work in season 4, but as mentioned, it will probably be about the fallout and cover-up of Bryce’s murder.

We’ll let you know more about season 4 when we find out! Stay tuned!
