10. One Magic Christmas

Get your tissues out for this one! One Magic Christmas may have a happy ending, but it takes a lot to get there.

The Grainger family is struggling to make ends meet, but with the mother, Ginny, working at a grocery store and the father, Jack, being out of work but fixing bikes as a hobby, they do okay.

The only problem is that Jack wants to open a bike shop and Ginny thinks it’s a waste of money. Their kids, Cal and Abbie, are excited for Christmas despite their mother being a Scrooge.

One night, Abbie delivers her letter to Santa but is met by a man named Gideon who turns out to be an angel. He tells her it would be better if her mom mailed it for her. So she takes it back. But on the way to her house, she is almost hit by a car, only getting away with her life because Gideon stops a crash

Gideon visits the Grainger quite often after that and soon finds out that Ginny didn’t mail her daughter’s letter. It’s clear the spirit of Christmas is not in Ginny whatsoever. So Gideon goes to Abbie and tells her that some things are going to happen the next day, but she must not be afraid.

What happens the next day? A lot. Jack goes to the bank with the kids to take out some money for Christmas shopping. Little do any of them know, that a desperate man named Harry Dickens has decided to rob the bank.

Abbie and Cal are left in the car, and Abbie goes to visit her mom at the grocery store across the street. Informed that Jack is at the bank, she runs over only to find that Jack has been shot by Harry. On top of all that, Ginny loses her job for leaving early.

But that’s not all. In a panic, Harry steals Jack’s car with the kids still in it and Ginny is unable to catch him. Luckily, Gideon is on the job, saves the kids, and brings them home. Ginny still has the awful job of telling them their father is dead.

Completely distraught, Abbie runs away to find Gideon so he can bring her father back. But he can’t do that. Only Santa can. So they go to visit him. Turns out, he can’t help either. Abbie must make her mother believe in Christmas again and then her father will be brought back.

The film ends with a happy ending so you probably can guess what happens from there. If you want to cry your eyes out and then be filled with Christmas spirit, you need to check out this 80s Christmas movie on Disney Plus.
