13. 12 Dates of Christmas

Twelve Dates of Christmas is like Groundhogs’s Day but with dating. What if you had to go on the same first date over and over again? Yikes. It goes better than you might think in this movie.

The story follows Kate, a woman down on her luck who happens to have a blind date on Christmas Eve with a man named Miles. But what starts off as a bad first date due to her trying to win back her ex, Jack, turns into something else entirely when Kate wakes up the next day to find it’s still Christmas Eve and she has to have another “first” date with Miles again.

The cycle will repeat until she can figure out how to break it. But she also has another question to consider: should she try to get back with her ex-boyfriend, Jack, or should she try to have something with Miles? Or maybe there is something else in her future.

As she gets multiple chances to relive Christmas Eve, she gets to know Miles better and gets to enjoy the things she didn’t appreciate the first time around, including her family and friends. And as it turns out, Miles is actually great. She didn’t see that first time since she was more worried about her past relationship.

But even when she has a great day and appreciates everything she has, she still wakes up to it being Christmas Eve again. Kate figures if this is where she’s stuck, she might as well enjoy it and take risks to tell the people she cares about how she feels. It isn’t until she comes to trust fate that the time loop breaks.

12 Dates of Christmas stars Amy Smart and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
