1. The Muppet Christmas Carol

Possibly controversial statement, but it’s only the truth: The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best version of the story ever made. Sorry, Dickens.

With Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as Mrs. Cratchit, Fozzie Bear is Fozziewig, and Gonzo as THE Charles Dickens, what more could you ask for? It’s fun and sad and heartwarming and has amazing songs that’ll get stuck in your head for the whole holiday season.

If you don’t know this story by now…where have you been? The brief version is that Ebenezer Scrooge pretty much hates Christmas because of his past and because he loves his money. But the spirits of Christmas are not having any of his nonsense. They visit him in one night to change his tune and bring him into the holiday season.

The first spirits to visit him are his old deceased business partners, Robert and Jacob Marley. They warn him that if he doesn’t change his ways, he’s going to end up in chains and have a terrible time in the afterlife. Dismissing them as a vision due to being overtired, he goes to bed.

That’s when the Ghost of Christmas Past arrives to show him his past and where he went wrong AKA what would have happened if he picked Belle! The next ghost is the Ghost of Christmas Present who is a literal giant. He takes him to his cousin Fred’s home to see how they talk about him and then to Bob Cratchit’s hour to see how the other half lives. This is when Scrooge is first introduced to Tiny Tim. The ghost tells Scrooge that Tiny Tim will not live to next Christmas.

The final ghost is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come who is a tall cloaked figure who shows him people joyful about his death and selling his things. Scrooge is then shown his own grave.

If you haven’t seen this delightful version of the old classic, rectify that immediately and watch it with people you care about on Disney Plus.
