If you are a big fan of the Netflix original series Stranger Things, you need to watch the new Netflix show Daybreak about a group of kids taking on the apocalypse.

Daybreak, a new Netflix original series, premiered on Netflix at the end of October 2019, and it’s quickly becoming a fan favorite at the streaming service.

As I watched the series, I couldn’t help but get some major Stranger Things vibes from this show, and I wanted to put Daybreak on the radar of fans of the best Netflix original series so far.

There aren’t many similarities between these two shows other than the fact that they are about kids. Daybreak appeals to a little older audience, while Stranger Things starts a little younger. If you like teen shows, Daybreak is the new show for you.

The series is based on the comic of the same name by Brian Ralph. Aron Eli Coleite developed the show for Netflix.

In the series, Josh Wheeler, played by Colin Ford, tries to find his girlfriend, Sam Dean (Sophie Simnett), during the apocalypse. After a nuclear bomb goes off near Glendale, California, all adults are killed and only teens are left. They split off into factions based on their high school cliques. Josh doesn’t belong to any clique, and he’s just trying to survive when he is reunited by a few other outsiders from his past.

It’s a brilliant premise, and the execution of said premise is outstanding. I’d describe it as a post-apocalyptic drama with a lot of funny moments and killer pop culture references. Do you know the other show has killer pop culture references, albeit of the 80s variety? We all know the answer to that one.

While I wouldn’t say the shows aren’t exactly the same, at the heart of each show, they share one basic principle: kids trying to save the world ruined by adults.

Without adults in Stranger Things, Will Byers would not have disappeared. Tons of characters would still be alive, and the Mind Flayer would not have found a way into this world. Everything seems to be happening following Eleven’s experiments and interaction with the Demogorgon that created a breach of sorts between the two worlds.

In Daybreak, adults ruined the world with nuclear war, and now, these teenagers are just trying to survive.

Again, there are many, many differences between the shows, but there’s something shared at the heart of both these shows. I think it’d be in the best interest of Stranger Things fans to check out Daybreak when you have a chance! I don’t think you’ll regret.

The other cool thing about these two shows is how much you start to care about these main characters. Not all shows have the ability to make you care, but Daybreak and Stranger Things accomplish just that.

The series also has an incredible cast, with Ford, Simnett, Austin Crute, Alyvia Alyn Lind, Cody Kearsley, Jeanté Godlock, Greg Kasyan, Krysta Rodriguez, and Matthew Broderick.

Also, if you’re a fan of Stranger Things, you’ll recognize one of the first characters we meet in Daybreak. Chester Rushing, who played Tommy H. in the first two seasons of Stranger Things, plays Terry, captain of the golf team.

There are 10 episodes in the first season of Daybreak, and it makes a really quick binge-watch. I watched the first five episodes in one sitting and then did the same the following day with the remaining episodes. Now, I can’t wait for season 2!
