18. Christmas in the Heartland
On a plane bound for the heartland, teenagers Kara and Jessie begin a friendship when they sit next to each other. That’s when they realize they are both headed for the same small town and spending time with relatives they’ve never met for the holidays.
So, since the relatives don’t know what they look like, they change places. Jessie ends up with Kara’s very wealthy grandparents and Kara stays with Jessie’s lovely, but quirky grandmother who lives a far less lavish life. Think Parent Trap except the two girls aren’t twins.
They plan to stay in one another’s lives for one week and hope they don’t get caught. When they make it to the places they’re staying, it’s definitely a bit of a culture shock, especially for Jessie who has never stayed in a place so nice.
Kara, on the other hand, seems to take to her new life just fine. She meets new people, tries new food, and even bonds with the family enough that she’s willing to do anything to make their holiday special.
As with most movies like this, the respective families are bound to find out at some point.
