5. Holiday in the Wild

Whether you’re ready for the holiday season or not, it’s here and Netflix is starting it off with a film in one of these least snowy locations imaginable with two well-known actors. Holiday in the Wild stars Kristen Davis and Rob Lowe and takes place with Davis’s character, Kate Conrad, on safari in Zambia.

After her husband ends their marriage abruptly, Kate goes alone on what was supposed to be a second honeymoon for the couple. But while she’s on her solo vacation drowning her sorrows in alcohol and trying to forget what she left behind, she meets Derek, a pilot and elephant rescuer in the hotel bar.

This leads to them rescuing an elephant together (protect elephants at all costs!) while on a helicopter ride and Kate realizing that perhaps this vacation isn’t the disaster she expected it to be. As they take care of the elephant together, they realize that they’ve come to care for each other.

Also, as Christmas comes closer, Kate discovers she much rather stay at the elephant sanctuary than go back to New York where her life is still in pieces. Everything at home doesn’t look or feel as good as the friends (the human and elephant kind) and love she’s found in Africa.

If you’re looking for a heartfelt holiday rom-com that takes place somewhere different from the usual Christmas movie, Holiday in the Wild is definitely the film you need to check out. If nothing else, you get to see a ton of elephants!
