10. Christmas with the Kranks

When the Kranks decide to skip Christmas this year because their daughter will be away, they think they’ll be able to have a relaxing vacation for once. No presents. No decorations. No Christmas Eve party. No holiday stress. Nothing.

Their neighbors protest, wondering why the most spirited couple on the street aren’t doing anything for Christmas, but they hold up against the peer pressure, even when people begin approaching them and standing outside their house.

But the Kranks quickly change their tune when their daughter decides to make a trip to see them instead. With only a couple of hours, they must rush to decorate the house, make the food, and prepare everything so their daughter doesn’t realize they didn’t plan on celebrating.

This is easier said than done. Putting up all the decorations, buying gifts, buying everything you need for the food, and planning a party in less than 24 hours is a big deal. The stores are packed, Luther Krank has to get on the roof (and fall off) to put up the decorations, and they need to find a tree.

Needless to say, things don’t go as planned. But the Kranks soon figure out that the holidays are more than just about material objects, they’re about the people you spend it with and what you do for others.

The movie is based on John Grisham’s book, Skipping Christmas, and stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Tim Allen, Dan Aykroyd, M. Emmett Walsh, Elizabeth Franz, Cheech Marin, Jake Busey, Felicity Huffman, Caroline Rhea, and Julia Gonzalo.

If you want a funny, different take on a Christmas movie, Christmas with the Kranks might be exactly what you’re looking for.
