14. Elliott: The Littlest Reindeer

What happens when one of Santa’s reindeer wants to retire? Well, that’s the premise of Elliott: The Littlest Reindeer. Blitzen announces he’s going to retire on December 21 (way to leave it until the last minute, Blitzen) and with a spot open, a miniature horse named Elliott decides to train to get that spot on Santa’s Christmas team.

With only three days to prepare, Elliott needs to get in shape quickly if he wants to be ready for the North Pole try-outs (which looks like the Olympics) and beat out any of the reindeer. The question is: does he have what it takes?

He definitely has his work cut out for him because the reindeer are not very welcoming. They throw him off the course, taunt him, and do anything they can to make him give up. But he doesn’t let any of it get to him. And he’s not doing it alone. He has his friend Hazel, a goat, who encourages him to follow his dreams through the good times and the bad.

This incredibly cute and heartwarming animated holiday film features voices from Morena Baccarin, John Cleese, Josh Hutcherson, Martin Short, Samantha Bee, Jeff Dunham, and Jean Yoon.

If you thought only reindeer could be part of Santa’s team to deliver presents all over the world, think again. Elliott has enough hope and determination (along with a bit of magic) to make his dreams come true. Who knows? Maybe you’ll see a mini-horse the next time you see Santa flying through the sky.
