Things are about to get scary on Netflix this October. Well, kind of. You have more luck with the quintessential Halloween movies and television episodes if you watched Freeform’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween programming block. But there’s more than enough spooky content already on Netflix to scare up a good Halloween scream, and there’s a select few new releases aiming to put the treat in trick-or-treat. The 2017 horror film House of the Witch hits your watch list this month.

In horror movies, it’s all fun and games until a group of teenagers enters a haunted house. House of the Witch centers on a group of teenagers looking to play a prank on Halloween at an abandoned house. As if the fact that the house is abandoned isn’t enough of a red flag. However, once the high schoolers enter the house, they become trapped and terrorized by a demonic witch. The witch wishes to unleash her wrath on the teens and plans to pick them off one by one.

House of the Witch comes from director Alex Merkin, who also directed the 2005 short horror film Across the Hall, starring Adrian Grenier, and it 2009 feature length adaptation of the same name, which starred Brittany Murphy. The film premiered on Syfy in October 2017 and holds a 25% audience scored on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 5.2/10 rating on IMDb. Speaking of witches, you may recognize House of the Witch star Darren Mann from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, another worthy contender for a Halloween marathon. Check out the film when it streams at the top of October.
