The Babysitter went into development in 2014 and filming took place the following year. McG, who is best known for producing hit shows such as The O.C., Chuck, and Supernatural directed the teen horror-comedy. Netflix eventually gained the rights to the film and released it in mid-October 2017, just in time for Halloween.
The film follows Cole (Lewis), a 12-year-old boy who has a close relationship with his babysitter, Bee (Weaving). One night, Cole stays up past his bedtime and witnesses Bee invite a group of friends over. Cole continues to spy on the teen and learns that they are all members of a satanic cult. Bee has plans to collect Cole’s blood but he calls the police in the meantime. The cult fends off the police until they can all target Cole.
Cole then tries to escape from his murderous babysitter and her satanic followers. Thankfully, the young boy finds help in his neighbor, Melanie. The Babysitter received generally favorable reviews, especially those who enjoy the comedic category of horror. Following this film, Samara Weaving went on to star in two other horror-comedies, Mayhem and Ready or Not.
