1. Green Room

Release Year: 2015

Directed By: Jeremy Saulnier

Cast: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Callum Turner, Patrick Stewart

Green Room could easily be considered as one of the scariest horror movies from the past decade. The movie was written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier, who recently worked on the thriller, Hold the Dark, for Netflix. Saulnier had long thought of developing a thriller held in a green room.

The gory horror film centers on a punk rock band that accepts a gig at a rural club outside of Portland during the end of their low-budget tour through the Pacific Northwest. After witnessing a murder at the club, the band is targeted by violent neo-Nazis. The leader of the neo-Nazis, Darcy (Stewart) orders his followers to kill the band to wipe out any potential witnesses. The group then fights for their survival after taking refuge in the club’s green room.

The dark and twisted horror movie found its way on many critics’ year-end best-list for 2016, a remarkable feat considering it was an independent film. The film was released at various festivals in 2015 before making its wid release the following year. Green Room also garnered a slew of award nominations and wins.
