Wes Craven returned to direct the third film in the Scream franchise which also starred the core cast from the previous films. Unlike the previous films, Ehren Kruger wrote the script for this installment. The setting moved to Hollywood for Scream 3 and followed the events after the massacre that took place at Sidney’s college.

Sidney (Campbell) goes into isolation after surviving to deadly events orchestrated by killers using the disguise as Ghostface. Those connected to Sidney start to get murdered as the killer goes looking for her whereabouts. Meanwhile, the movies based on her life continue but the new Ghostface is killing the cast in the same order that their real-life counterparts were killed.

The latest murders bring Sidney out of hiding as she travels to Hollywood to help the lead detective and her friends figure out the person behind the mask. The killer has a connection to her past but this time, it’s someone directly related to Sidney. Following Scream 3, the franchise went on a long hiatus until Scream 4 debuted in 2011.
