Bird Box was one of the most talked-about films of 2018. The movie starring Sandra Bullock was based on the 2014 novel by author Josh Malerman. It had a limited release in mid-December before making its premiere just before Christmas.

The post-apocalyptic thriller follows a woman, Malorie (Bullock) who is tasked with protecting two children from supernatural entities. After a series of mass deaths, Malorie witnesses the madness occur in her own town. When people see the entity with their own eyes, they kill themselves in violent ways. Malorie’s own sister falls victim before a woman invites her to take refuge in a home. Malorie who is pregnant at the time lives with a group of survivors who try to investigate what’s going on.

Five years later, Malorie is taking care of her own child and the child of another woman. In order to survive, they must walk around with blindfolds. Malorie takes the children and embarks on a dangerous trip to a survival community.

Bird Box went into development in 2013 before Netflix purchased the rights of the book in 2017. Despite mixed reviews, the movie was an absolute hit for Netflix. It was reportedly viewed by 80 million households within its first month on the streaming service.
