Scream might not be set during the Halloween season but the 1996 movie is still one of the most beloved horror films in history. Ghostface has justified his spot on the list of iconic killers from the genre since his introduction in the film.

The movie was notably directed by the horror legend, Wes Craven. Scream took a meta approach to the slasher genre by paying tribute to other big films such as Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The movie centers on Sidney Prescott (Campbell), a teen whose mother was mysteriously murdered a year prior. After two of her fellow classmates are slain, she becomes targeted by a masked killer who taunts her by phone calls. Sidney’s boyfriend, Billy (Ulrich), is one of the top suspects which greatly affect their relationship

After the town closes the school and initiates a curfew, the kids plan a huge party which turns into a bloodbath for many in attendance. Sidney also finally realizes why she is the target and how it relates to her mother’s murder. The role of Sidney was played by Neve Campbell who headlined the following movies in the franchise.
