If you like Between Two Ferns, Zach Galifianakis and/or comedy movies, Netflix’s Between Two Ferns is the movie for you!

Netflix just released their latest comedy, Between Two Ferns: The Movie starring Zach Galifianakis, and it’s a must-watch. The film is based on the talk show and web series hosted by Galifianakis, Between Two Ferns, which features celebrity guests exchanging barbs and insults with Galifianakis.

The premise of the movie is the same as the talk show; guests are invited to be interviewed on a deliberate looking low-budget stage between…you guessed it…two ferns. It is set against a black backdrop with two chairs and table between the chairs and a fern on the other side of each chair. There Galifianakis asks inappropriately hilarious questions of our unsuspecting celebrities.

However, the movie strays from the talk show by inserting a plot about how Galifianakis is trying to promote his talk show Between Two Ferns. Because his show is rather risqué, it only appears on the public broadcasting channel, but Galifianakis has dreams of making it big. He wants more than anything to be a famous talk show host and it is this dream that separates the talk show from the movie and provides the purpose for Galifianakis to travel to Los Angeles from North Carolina.

After nearly drowning poor Matthew McConaughey in the opening of the movie, the producer, Will Ferrell will only give Galifianakis a contract for his own talk show if he hits the road and tapes 10 episodes of his future show, as he travels from North Carolina to Los Angeles. So, Galifianakis and his three faithful employees hit the road and the movie then the movie follows his adventures as he tries to fulfill his dream of earning his own talk show.

The talk show originated as a short film on Scott Aukerman and B.J. Porter’s Fox’s sketch pilot The Right Now, a spin-off of their Comedy Death-Ray live show. When the network decided not to pick the show up, the two decided to put it on the website Funny or Die where it was much more successful as a television series.

Funny or Die was founded by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Mark Kvamme, and Chris Henchy. The website is both a comedy video website and film/television production company that launched on April 12, 2007, with its first videoThe Landlord.

Between Two Ferns is considered a mockumentary, which just means the movie appears to be a serious movie in order to poke fun at our celebrity guests. It is obvious, however, that the guests are clued into what the questions will be and they can choose how they will respond to the inappropriate and bizarre interview.

Some tried to appear offended and outraged, but the bloopers shown after the movie reveal the truth. They are laughing and joking behind the scenes about the bizarre questions and a few of the guests even come up with jokes themselves.

If you like off the wall humor and want a movie that is light-hearted, hilarious and just plain fun then you must watch Between Two Ferns. The movie makes no apologies for its edging the line humor that sets it apart from other comedies. The movie is streaming currently on Netflix, so sit back and enjoy the wild ride of humor that is Between two Ferns.
