American Horror Story: 1984 premiere recap: 5 best moments
American Horror Story is back for its ninth season and the premiere felt like a fun fresh breath of new air into the series.
American Horror Story is back! While the show is without its superstar heavy-hitters like Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, the premiere for the new season titled 1984, led by Emma Roberts, didn’t fail to make an impression and actually managed to give the series a breath full of fresh air.
This season feels like a must-see for the fans of slasher movies. It has the campy and fun horror vibe, and it’s already more fun than the past few seasons. It also somehow reminded me of Scream Queens since Emma Roberts is associated with both of these projects.
Let’s just jump into our top 5 favorite moments from the season premiere!
5. The opening massacre sequence
The episode started out with a flashback from 1970 where few counselors were messing around in a cabin. Suddenly, one of them heard keys jingling, and not too long after that, Mr. Jingles murdered all three of them along with the rest of the cabin and took each of their ears as trophies. Now, that’s a way to start a slasher-themed season.
4. The 80s themed opening credits
American Horror Story has had some pretty amazing opening credits throughout these past nine seasons. While my heart still belongs to somewhere between Coven and Murderhouse, this 80s-themed title credits was one of the show’s very best if not the best title sequence ever.
3. “You’re all gonna die”
On their way to the camp, the kids met this weird gas station guy, who finds out that they are going to Camp Redwood. As soon as he heard the name, he tells them to go back and gives them the classic horror cliché, “You’re all gonna die”.
That was another one of those classic horror moments that one can’t not love. But on a serious note, when somebody tells you that you should not go to this place that you don’t know anything about or else you might die, you should seriously listen to them.
2. Mr. Jingles kills the Gas Station Guy
Just after Jingles broke out of the psych facility, he caught up with the gas station guy while he was repairing a car and he crushed him with that car and gruesomely murdered him after that. It reminded me a lot of the Supernatural episode titled “Mint Condition” and the parallel between both of them is probably why I liked the scene so much.
1. Brooke vs Mr. Jingles
Brooke (Emma Roberts) went to check on the hiker guy they found injured in the road and she saw his dead body hanging back in the door and then saw Mr. Jingles through the window and ran through the woods to escape him, the whole scene was paralleled with Olympic Torch Ceremony which actually suited it perfectly and made it more thrilling. I knew nothing will happen to Brooke just yet but I still enjoyed the hell out of that scene and it was quite brilliant making it our favorite moment from the episode.
