There’s a big break between seasons of Stranger Things, and we figured out the perfect way to break up the time between new seasons: Stranger Things Christmas Special!
There’s been a lot of talk about Christmas since the end of Stranger Things 3. In the final scene of the season, Mike and Eleven talk about getting together for Christmas and exchanging presents because, uh, they like presents.
As you recall, Eleven left Hawkins with the Byers at the end of the season, so Mike and Eleven will only be able to see each other over weekends and holidays.
Since that final scene, fans and media outlets have been speculated about the possibility of a Christmas special for Stranger Things, and I think that’s a great idea. There might even be a little proof that something Christmasy is coming Stranger Things in the future, as well, according to Cinema Blend.
On July 4, Netflix gave a behind-the-scenes look at Stranger Things 3. In the video, the stars of the show, Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Sadie Sink, take fans on a tour of the sets.
In Matarazzo’s part of the video, he takes fans through Mike’s basement which serves as the hangout for the kids during the first three seasons. The basement looks familiar except for the fact that it’s covered in Christmas decor. We haven’t seen any Christmas scenes yet.
Matarazzo acknowledges it in the video and says the basement is “decorated for Christmas for reasons I don’t know.”

Some fans who seem to believe a Christmas special, or even the fourth season of the series, has already been filmed. It would make sense that they could have filmed something for Christmas to be released in 2019 when they were filming Stranger Things 3.
I don’t know how that would work exactly, but it does seem odd that they would set up all the sets for Stranger Things 4 and then take a long break before filming. That doesn’t make sense, but there’s a few things that could explain the Christmas decor.
First of all, this could just be one big misunderstanding by fans. After filming Stranger Things 3 last year, the stars of Stranger Things got together to wrap some gifts for fans of the series. They filmed it, and Netflix shared it on YouTube.
Where did they do the wrapping? Mike’s basement and it was decorated for Christmas. In fact, it was decorated exactly the same for both videos, which leads me to believe that it could have been decorated for that promotional video.
Here’s the video so you can compare for yourself!
That’s not a fun theory, so let’s get to a few fun ones.
Second, The writers and the Duffer Brothers might have wanted to end the season at Christmas 1985, instead of October. Perhaps, they even filmed a few scenes for that ending and then decided they liked the ending with the Byers leaving Hawkins as the end of Stranger Things 3. A lot of stuff gets cut in the editing room, so that’s definitely a possibility.
The third theory, which has been floated around online, is that Stranger Things 4 will feature a Christmas scene or two. As mentioned, a big deal was made about Christmas during that final scene of season 3.
If there’s going to be a big break between seasons or a time jump in the new season, it would make sense that they’d film the Christmas scene for next season to make sure the actors look like they did in the third season.
As these young stars get older and look different, it’s much more challenging to film scenes and make these stars look the same as they did a year or two ago.
I think those are much more likely to happen than a full Christmas special, but that’s the third answer to the Christmas decor question: a Stranger Things Christmas Special!
Of those four possibilities, obviously, I’m hoping for the Stranger Things Christmas Special! More Stranger Things is always a good thing, and I’m really hoping Netflix and the Duffer Brothers have a few tricks up their sleeve this or next holiday season.

We don’t know when Stranger Things 4 is coming to Netflix, but a Christmas special is the perfect way to give fans a little something to watch and think about over the long break between seasons.
I don’t think it even needs to happen in 2019, either. If we have to wait until 2021 to see the full fourth season, then a Christmas Special in 2020 would be a great idea! It’d cut the wait time in half and get fans excited about the new season. And, it’d probably be the most popular Netflix special of all time.
More than 40 million people watched Stranger Things 3 over opening weekend, and that was like seven hours long. If there’s a 90-minute Stranger Things Christmas Special that comes out around the holidays, 100 million people would probably watch over opening weekend.
There’s a lot of uncertainty about Stranger Things 4 right now. Unfortunately, Netflix has not confirmed any news about the fourth season or announced the renewal. There were reports earlier this summer about season 4 starting production this fall, but that has not been confirmed.
For now, we’ll just have to wait for any news about the series and hope we eventually get to see Christmas in Hawkins!
