10. Twin Peaks

Before Riverdale, The Killing, and Stranger Things, there was Twin Peaks, the David Lynch early ’90s series about the slightly-off detective who comes to the town of Twin Peaks, Washington to solve the murder of a local young woman. Sounds pretty generic, right? It is anything but.

The show starts off like any other crime drama. The body of a dead woman, Laura Palmer, is found, along with an injured girl named Ronette Pulaski. The local police get involved and then when they realize they’re out of their depths, they call in a special agent. In this case, that turns out to be Special Agent Dale Cooper. A man who likes pie and coffee as much as he likes catching criminals.

But as Agent Cooper begins to investigate, he comes to realize that this town is not what it seems. Sure, there are the local teens who knew Laura and they seem normal enough. But then there’s the kooky lady with the eye patch, the woman who carries around a log and is simply called The Log Lady, or the weird dreams/hallucinations he has while staying in the town.

He also must deal with Audrey Horne, the daughter of the local hotel owner, Ben Horne. She falls in love with Cooper and tries to find clues for him in order to make him fall in love with her.

Copper’s initial findings have him believing the killer is someone who has murdered before in southwestern Washington and that based on his evidence, the killer must live in Twin Peaks. It also comes out that Laura was leading a double life and cheating on her boyfriend.

The investigation continues through the seasons with weirder and weirder things happenings, including a demon/ghost.

If you’re looking for a crime/mystery show that’s different than anything you’ve ever seen, Twin Peaks is the way to go.
