6. Hiram

Much to the destruction of the town of Riverdale, criminal kingpin Hiram Lodge seems to have well over nine lives. No matter who pins his back against the wall, he rises from the ashes and strikes back with a vengeance.

Currently, Veronica masterminded his lockup behind bars, but Hiram’s influence extends beyond prison, as he had Hermione arrested and promised to unleash a storm on Veronica. But will season 4 finally hit Hiram with what’s been coming to him? While it’s possible he could wind up six feet under, he’s more than likely going to outsmart everyone (again).

5. Chic

Look, the likelihood of Chic returning to Riverdale season 4 and being an integral part of the overarching mystery again seems slim to none at this point. But never underestimate this show’s capability of dipping back into the archives and offing a side character for a bit of shock value and narrative momentum.

After revealing himself to have worked with Penelope as the Gargoyle King, Chic got arrested (off-screen, so what is the truth?), even as Penelope escaped the clutches of the law. Jail doesn’t hinder murder in this town, though. If we’re dealing with a slasher or some sort of murder, Chic could arguably get officially canceled this season.

4. Ethel

While not a main character, Ethel Muggs has been Riverdale’s most valuable and prevalent recurring player for three years strong. She’s always tangled into the season-long mystery, whether it’s a red herring suspect for the Black Hood or a brainwashed mess at the hand of Gryphons & Gargoyles.

But let’s be real: the clock is ticking. Somewhere along the way, her luck will run out and she will find herself at the wrong end of the mystery. In season 4, Ethel could yet again play a huge role in the mystery, but maybe it’s a much different “huge role” (see: fatal) than before.
