Black Panther

This Marvel movie made waves following its February 2018 release and almost two years later still reminds us why it was such a big success.

Black Panther starts our story off thousands of years before the setting, showing us the origins of the ‘Black Panther’ and how a few African tribes used the power of virbranium to create technology well more advanced than the modern world. They are able to hide their advanced technology by posing as an underdeveloped nation.

Skip to the present day, we meet our protagonist T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) after he is crowned king of Wakanda after his father’s death. His claim to the throne is argued by one of the tribes he needs approval from, and even after winning the fight he is challenged too, the doubts of being king still linger. The movie draws us in to see the conflict he will face and having to protect his nation while also protecting the world.

This movie was considered a big step in the right direction when it comes to representation, as it is the first superhero movie with a solo black lead in years. Black Panther has everything we want in a big superhero movie: a skilled set of actors, to breathtaking costume designs, and a storyline that treated T’Challa like any other superhero. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s not too late to stream and catch up with one of Marvel’s most popular superheroes.
