Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman is coming to Netflix in November 2019

The Irishman directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci is coming to Netflix in November 2019!

The Netflix original film The Irishman directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Robert De Niro finally has a release date on Netflix.

According to the streaming network, The Irishman premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019. The film will open in theaters in Los Angeles and New York City on Nov. 1 before it makes its way to other theaters around the world and Netflix later in the month, according to a report from The New York Times.

Most Netflix original films do not get a theatrical release date, as you know. The Irishman is getting a theatrical run because it’s required for films to be eligible for the Oscars. According to the report, Netflix was looking for wider theatrical distribution, but they were unable to come to terms with theater chains around the country.

The Irishman will premiere at the New York Film Festival on Sept. 27. Check out Netflix’s release date announcement below.

Scorsese’s new film tells the story of Frank Sheehan, played by Robert De Niro, who was a hitman for the mob in 1970s New York City. The film is based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, which tells the true story of Sheehan’s life.

The film focuses on the connection between Sheehan, Jimmy Hoffa, a Union leader who disappeared, and the Bufalino Crime Family, according to Netflix.

In addition to Scorsese, one of the greatest directors of all time, the film has an excellent cast, including De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, Bobby Cannavale, Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Kathrine Narduzzi, and Stephen Graham.

The Irishman is the biggest Netflix original movie so far, and it’s probably Netflix’s best chance at winning the Oscar for Best Picture. I thought Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma deserved to win the Best Picture Oscar last year, but it came up a little bit short. The Irishman could be the Netflix movie that wins that award for Netflix this year. We’ll just have to wait and see!
