Netflix is making the sequel to the horror-comedy film The Babysitter. McG, the director of the fist film, will also be back to direct the sequel.

Looks like Netflix is in need of another Babysitter.

According to a report from Bloody Disgusting and Production Weekly, Netflix has ordered a follow-up to McG’s The Babysitter, the horror-comedy released in October 2017. McG will also return as director for the sequel.

The Netflix original was a surprise hit with horror starved Netflix subscribers, despite being critically panned by reviewers.

I enjoyed the original film. It’s a fun throwback to the teenage horror films of the ’80s, while still feeling fresh enough to entertain horror fans of all ages in 2019. With a star-making performance from Samara Weaving, who has gone on to other stand-out performances in Picnic at Hanging Rock and a starring role in the upcoming Ready or Not.

It is always exciting to get Netflix horror news. Combine that with the tease at the end of the original film, and I am excited to see where McG takes the story next.

Here is the synopsis for The Babysitter, via Netflix. Make sure you check out the movie if you haven’t seen it yet!

"“When Cole stays up past his bedtime, he discovers that his hot babysitter is part of a satanic cult that will stop at nothing to keep him quiet.”"

As mentioned, The Babysitter was directed by McG, who also directed the Netflix original film Rim of the World and Terminator Salvation, who dipped is toe into the horror genre for the first time after being known primarily for action films through the years.

In addition to Weaving’s performance, the film also features stand-out performances from Judah Lewis, Hana Mae Lee, Robbie Amell, and Bella Thorn.

We’ll probably have to wait a while to see this movie, unfortuantely. According to the report, the film starts production later this year around October. No casting or story details have been announced for the upcoming film at this time. However, based on the ending of the original, we could be seeing more of Weaving as Bee back for more blood. We can only hope!

Look for The Babysitter 2 to possibly make its Netflix debut around Halloween 2020. It usually takes about a year or so from the start of production before Netflix original movies are available to stream.
