Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry (2016)

I saw “Fluffy”–Iglesias’s nickname comes from one of his best-known punch lines: “I’m not fat. I’m fluffy”–in person a few years ago. It was at the Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, North Carolina. The place was packed. A couple of comics opened for him, and when he finally walked out, the applause was tumultuous.

It was a longer show than most, lasting well over an hour. Toward the end, Iglesias was clearly out of material, yet the fans begged him to stay on stage. So like an aging rock band, he asked what we wanted to hear. People started yelling out his iconic routines–doughnuts, the Fat and the Furious, Splash Mountain, “Donkey!”–and each time he started one, we finished it for him. Really, the guy could have joined us in the audience, a spectator at his own show.

Iglesias recorded “Hot and Fluffy,” his first special in Bakersfield, CA in 2003. He’s now filmed two Netflix original specials, including I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry and One Show Fits All. He also has his own Netflix original series, Mr. Iglesias, which was just renewed for season 2.
