Despite being cast as the lead in Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot, Mahershala Ali also accepted a guest-spot in season two of the Hulu Original Ramy. Find out more information below.
The second season of Hulu’s Ramy series is scheduled for release sometime in 2020 and with it the introduction of several new cast members to the Hulu Original. One of those cast additions is Mahershala Ali, the titular star of Marvel Studios’ Blade reboot. Ali’s exact role in the television series is being kept secreted with the network stating only that he will be a special guest star in the comedy series.
For those not familiar with Ali’s work, he won his first Oscar 2016 for Moonlight and another for his portrayal of Don Shirley in Green Book. Ali also starred in the third season of HBO’s drama series True Detective where he received an Emmy nomination. He also made an appearance in Alita: Battle Angel.
As for Ali’s role in Ramy Season 2, he brings quite a bit of experience with him and to the series. It will be exciting to see how the directors apply that experience to their story, though how is still unclear. Our guess is Ali will portray another sound voice who Ramy Youssef encounters on his spiritual journey.
The young Muslim-Egyptian man has seen and heard much in his life but new experiences are the only way for him to grow — and for that — he needs to hear from people with different perspectives on society, religion, and everything in between. Ali’s character is bound to be one of them. The question, however, remains: How will Ramy and Ali’s character interact when they meet for the first time?
