The latest episode of FX’s investigative series The Weekly centered around the infighting between progressives in the Democratic party. Their goal is to replace Trump with someone worthy of the title of President but that won’t happen as long as conflicting philosophies keep us divided.

In the eighth episode of FX’s The Weekly, the New York Times’ team of journalists set out to uncover a crippling problem within America’s Democratic Party. It’s not something that can’t be fixed but The Times’ journalists were on point with their investigation.

Led up by National Politics Reporter Astead Herndon, the investigation explores how the urgent need for someone to replace the United States’ current President has pushed every respectable Democrat to target their fellow Democrats when there’s an even greater threat present.

Rather than working together to get the Trump Administration out of the White House, the multitude of candidates in the running are tearing each other’s reputations apart in hopes of knocking them out of the race early on. Their intentions are noble as they all want to dethrone Trump but the way they’re going about it has become worrisome.

During the last debate alone, most of the candidates took sly shots at their colleagues with some well thought out zingers. The problem is they focused more on past policies that can be viewed as controversial instead of talking about new policies that’ll improve the country’s overall wellbeing, specifically those relating to climate change.

The conflict on the Democratic Debate stage was just one example of infighting amongst progressives who all possess a common goal. There’ve been multiple instances of well-known Democratic leaders refusing to speak in good faith about controversial topics, though it’s coming to a turning point. Dianne Feinstein, specifically, comes up when we look at the video of her which went viral earlier this year.

In it, Feinstein can be seen talking down to a group of young environmental activists who she believes are just another troop of school kids with lofty ideas. But as it turns out, those kids were part of a larger environmental activist group known as the Sunrise Movement.

Once the video of Feinstein got onto social media, it went viral overnight. The events which transpired were avoidable but Feinstein’s stubborn approach to progressives with slightly different ideals exemplifies exactly how divided the Democratic Party really is.

What was of more importance in their investigation is that the division of the Left is due to conflicting philosophies on climate change. Most progressives support specific initiatives but there’s been a divisive split between those who support the Green New Deal and others who don’t. Such a split leaves the country in a compromised position.

If we’re looking at polling numbers and who is most likely to be elected from the current selection of Democratic candidates, the American people are probably going to wind up with a moderate who’s incapable of making a sufficient impact on climate change. Luckily, some of the more robust candidates are standing up and pledging to sign in legislation that resembles the Green New Deal.

The sad thing is that while we wait to find out which Democrat will be the frontrunner in the Presidential Race, there’s a united party of Republicans with Trump at the helm ready to fight tooth and nail against any opposition. And the Left has to unite or face complete and utter annihilation in the wake of Trump’s massive follower base.
