Robin

We met Robin (Maya Hawke) pretty early on in the season and she really became an important part of the Stranger Things family pretty quickly. I mean, her dynamic with Steve was just so entertaining to watch. It makes me wonder what other kinds of trouble they might have gotten into together!

It goes without saying that Robin was the one who eventually solved the code from the Russian message. She figured out what everything meant from scanning the shops in the Starcourt Mall and linking them back to what was being said in Russian. With Steve’s help, the group was able to conclude that the message must have come from somewhere in Hawkins, leading them to discover the secret lab that was hiding underneath the Starcourt Mall.

The thing that really made Robin special was her individuality. Through the season I’m sure everyone was expecting Robin and Steve to declare their hidden feelings for one another and be together happily ever after. However, it didn’t go that way. After being drugged by the Russians and spending time together, the pair formed an unbreakable friendship and their silly adventures together after escaping proved to be some of my favorite moments from the season. Seeing Dustin and Erica have to look after two “grown ups”? I mean, who would’ve thought the babysitter would need someone to babysit him?

As the two were coming off of the high, Steve shared that he had feelings for Robin. She then revealed to him that she wasn’t interested in him but rather their classmate Tammy Thompson, thus coming out as gay. Steve just pushed on and ended up teasing her about her choice in a crush and their friendship grew even stronger.

I could go on and on, but Robin really proved that there can be some amazing male/female friendships and that there’s nothing wrong with that. She really showed up to be a frontrunner this season and gave Stranger Things some positive and strong female and LGBTQ representation. I hope to see some more of her in the next season (hopefully!).
