Stranger Things 3: The (spoiler) was the most fun moment in the series

Dustin and Suzie singing The NeverEnding Story theme song is the most enjoyable moment from Stranger Things 3 and in the Netflix original show’s history.

Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things 3! 

During the most important time of Stranger Things 3, the best Netflix original series did something that few others shows would do or even could do: throw in a musical number from a ’80s classic. And, The NeverEnding Story theme song scene happened to be the best scene of the whole season.

Here’s how it happened: Dustin and the rest of Scoops Troop take to Weathertop to make sure all of the Hawkins Heroes can communicate via Dustin’s radio tower. That’s when the monster shows up at the Starcourt Mall, just after Hopper, Joyce and Murray have infiltrated the Russian base.

While Eleven, Will, Lucas, Mike, Max, and Nancy and Jonathan hide from the monster, Robin and Steve fly down the mountain in “The Toddfather” to save their friends. After Lucas saves everyone with his slingshot, they all run outside to the car to replace the ignition cable and flee the mall, leaving Eleven, Mike and Max behind. Unfortunately, Billy is there, and he would have killed everyone with his car if Steven and Robin didn’t arrive just in time to crash into Billy’s car.

The Hawkins Heroes leave the mall with the monster chasing them, and that’s when the magic happens.

Joyce and Hopper try to open a safe using Planck’s Constant as the password. Unfortunately, Murray doesn’t actually know what Planck’s Constant is, but Dustin knows someone who does: Suzie. He radios his girlfriend, and this time, she answers. We finally meet Suzie, played by Gabriella Pizzolo.

Dustin asks her for Planck’s Constant, but Suzie isn’t playing around, even with the fate of the world at stake. She is mad at him for not talking to her for days, and to make it up to her, she makes Dusty-bun sing the theme song to The NeverEnding Story at literally the most intense moment of the whole season.

Suzie-poo joins in about halfway through the song, which is heard by all the Hawkins Heroes as they wait to get Planck’s Constant and continue with the plan.

And, it’s magic. It’s, I think, the most enjoyable moment in the series so far. There are tons of other great moments, but I don’t know how many true, fun moments there are in this show. This is the most fun moment in the show so far.

Murray and Joyce had the most priceless reactions. I think my reaction to this scene was closest to Steve’s. I was shocked at first, but by the end, I was just laughing. If the show proves anything, it’s kids are the best, even with the fate of the world on the line.

As a fan of The NeverEnding Story as a kid, this was the perfect song Stranger Things 3 could have used in this moment. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, it was actually supposed to be a song from The Lord of the Rings, but they changed it, and it worked out perfectly.

It happened at the perfect time, too, and that’s what makes it so good. The Stranger Things 3 finale was dark and emotional. What a great break up all that tension!

The ’80s were a little before my time, but I am, along with a lot of fans, able to pick up on many of the references throughout the shows first three seasons. Those things are part of this show, and I think it’s awesome that the Duffer Brothers and the writers can continue to draw on the times for inspiration. It definitely keeps the series feeling fresh and the audience guessing at what will come next.

I understand why some fans weren’t too keen on the NeverEnding Story scene. It did slow down the momentum the story had built up to that point. It’s not like that stopped the show, though. The story ramps back up to 11 like seconds later, and it ends with a few devastating scenes even after the monster has been defeated.

I love this scene so much, and it feels like, to me, there’s never been a better time to remake The NeverEnding Story with the cast of Stranger Things.
