A list of five good movies to watch on Netflix this weekend, including The Immigrant, Mary Poppins Returns and more.

There isn’t that much new dropping on Netflix this weekend. That doesn’t mean there isn’t much to watch. It’s time to get your Netflix queue with a range of movies to get you through the weekend.

Luckily, there’s plenty on Netflix right now. There are also some movies leaving soon that you’ll want to watch one more time.

Sorry Angel

There are a couple of foreign movies being added to Netflix this month. The one this weekend is Sorry Angel, dropping today. Jacques is a writer in Paris. Despite not yet turning 40, he doesn’t believe that his best years are ahead of him. Meanwhile, Arthur is a student in Brittany, who refuses to believe anything in life could be possible.

This is a beautiful LGBTQ movie that focuses on love, want, acceptance, and honesty. Arthur and Jacques are destined to be together. At least, they could be if either could believe it.

The Immigrant

Another movie arriving this weekend is The Immigrant, available from July 14. When two Polish sisters arrive at Ellis Island, NYC in 1921, they have the hope of a new life. However, Magda is quarantined due to a lung disease and Ewa faces immediate deportation.

Bruno, a Jewish man claiming to be from the Travelers’ Aid Society, steps in to help after hearing her fluent English. He offers Ewa a chance to make money to help get her sister released, but that life isn’t something any woman would like.

American Gangster

You don’t want to miss this Denzel Washington movie before it leaves Netflix on July 16. Washington is Frank Lucas, a Harlem drug dealer, rising to power in a corrupt 1970s New York. He’s surpassing the Mafia families and that doesn’t bode well. Meanwhile, Russel Crowe is Richie Roberts, an honest cop determined to take down the most dangerous man in the city.

Smart People

When you need a comedy, Netflix is often the place to turn. Smart People stars Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker as a literary professor and his former student. Lawrence Wetherhold is estranged from his son and daughter, and it doesn’t help matters that he starts dating his former student.

Out of the blue, his adoptive brother, who has always been the black sheep in the family, turns up looking for help. Lawrence realizes that he needs to get his own life in order if he wants the chance to reconnect with his children.

The movie was released earlier this week, so you can stream it right now.

Mary Poppins Returns

You may not have had the chance to watch this movie since its arrival on Netflix earlier this week. Mary Poppins Returns is the last Disney movie to stream on the giant before Disney+’s streamer takes over the titles.

This follow-up to the 1950s movie that starred Julie Andrews in the titular role is a delight. Young and old will adore it, whether you remember the original by heart or you’re just introducing children to the world of Mary Poppins.
