Even though Stranger Things 3 just came out, we’re all wondering if Netflix will renew the show for a fourth season. The Duffer Brothers already have an idea of where they want the show to go in Stranger Things 4.

[Spoilers for Stranger Things 3 if you haven’t watched yet]

It’s been a week since the long-awaited Stranger Things 3 was released on Netflix, and most of you have probably finished binging the new season (and are probably watching it a second time, it’s OK you can admit it) or you might still be working through the eight episodes.

No matter where you are in the season, we’re all already wondering if there will be a Stranger Things 4. Netflix hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but creators Ross and Matt Duffer have an idea of where they want the show to go next.

The Duffer Brothers recently did an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where they shared that if there is a fourth season, “it would feel very different.”

Here is their full comment below on the topic, via EW:

"We don’t know a lot, but we do know a lot of the big broad strokes. At the end of season 2, we knew about Billy. We knew that the Russians were going to come in. We didn’t know the mall and stuff, but again, we know these big broad strokes. That’s sort of where we are in season 4, said Ross. It’s going to feel very different than this season. But I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting."

The Duffer Brothers also mentioned the mysterious American prisoner and the Demogorgon in Russia would be addressed in the potential new season.

I really think Netflix will renew Stranger Things. The show is breaking Netflix records, has a large fanbase and is a big money-maker for the streaming service. Especially with popular shows like The Office and Friends being pulled in 2020, they need to focus on their original shows.

Some of you may hate me for this, but here it goes. I loved season 3, I really did. The storylines, the addition of more comedic moments, all the 80’s throwbacks and visuals/special effects were at another level this season and made it epic!

More from Stranger Things

However, (this is probably an unpopular opinion), something felt missing this season, and I don’t know what it is. I really don’t want to feel this way about one of my favorite shows, but I found some scenes to be slow. I really didn’t like that it took so long to understand what the monster (does it even have a name or is it just the Flayed army?) is and how it works.

Will barely had any lines, and my biggest complaint – the group was separated the whole season!

We’ve seen everyone break into subgroups in the past seasons, so I wasn’t expecting them all to be together the whole time. But in season 3, everyone was too separated, especially with how Hopper was killed off and how there were barely any scenes with Hopper and Eleven. That was really disappointing.

I think it was smart of the Duffer Brothers to have the pairings the fans love work together though: Dustin and Steve, Joyce and Hopper, Mike and Eleven. And new pairings like Eleven and Max.

Now I promise my rambling connects back to what this article is about. My fear with season 4 “being different” and further separating everyone is that it will further drive that feeling. We got through Eleven being separated from everyone in season 2 and enjoyed the different pairings in season 3. But, if we have to go through it again in season 4, I don’t know what it’s going to be like.

More. When is Stranger Things 4 coming to Netflix?. light

For a show going into its fourth season, they need to keep things fresh. But going back to the seventh episode of the second season where Eleven goes to find Kali, the Duffer Brothers previously said they knew they took a risk with the plotline of expanding the show outside of Hawkins. That episode was one of the most controversial ones and probably the least favorite for many fans.

So I don’t understand why they would want to expand even with the reaction they got from that episode. Even if the Byers family is with Eleven this time, I don’t know if that will be enough. Bringing in Russia this season was a great way to tie it into the show since the country’s been talked about as a threat since season 1. Though, unless “the American” turns out to be Hopper (I really hope it is!), I don’t know if I’ll be too interested if there are many scenes in Russia.

What do you think of Stranger Things 4 being different? Hopefully, Netflix announces a renewal for the show soon!
