Netflix releases first images of The Last Kingdom season 4

All eyes are on what the future has in store for Uhtred and those surrounding him. We get a glimpse in the first images from The Last Kingdom season 4.

We don’t have a release date, but we do get a first look at what’s in store for Uhtred and those surrounding him. Netflix took to Twitter through the show’s official profile to share the first-look images of The Last Kingdom season 4.

These images barely give anything away, but that doesn’t mean we’re not excited. We get a few confirmation returns for characters and there’s a chance to speculate on what to expect.

Uhtred certainly hasn’t changed since the third season. He’s sporting the same haircut and he has his friends beside him. There’s one image that certainly stands out. It’s a behind-the-scenes image with Uhtred stood next to Finan. This isn’t that surprising, but it’s Aldhelm that has us speculating.

The end of the third season saw Aldhelm stabbed by Aethelred. Aldhelm turned to Aethelflaed for protection and help, but we were left with questions over whether he would survive. The initial production video for The Last Kingdom season 4 made it clear that Aldhelm would survive and now we get to see that the man formerly loyal to Mercia will share some time with Uhtred.

Will the two be on the same side? Will they be able to trust each other? There are so many more questions just from this one image.

Then there’s the image with Beocca in the background. He’s still wearing the same clothing from the previous seasons. He suffered a blow when his wife (and Uhtred’s sister), Thyra, was killed in the house fire. Growing tired of the war between Danes and Saxons and fueled by anger, he turned to Uhtred for help and support. The two seem to be still on the best of terms but still opposite sides of religion.

The image with Beocca looks to be from the same scene — or at least the same set — as the image with Aldhelm. Who is everyone looking up to? Will it be the new king, Edward? Could Aelswith be up to something that could threaten Uhtred and his friends’ lives?

We don’t have a release date yet, but the release of the images came with the announcement that we’d get the season next year. This was already something we knew, but it looks like there are no plans to move up with the release.
