Shortly after Stranger Things 3 premiered, the theories and questions about the new season and the future of the series started flying.

Now, after a few days, one of the stars of Stranger Things confirmed a major theory. There are spoilers ahead!

Okay, that should be enough spoiler alerts for anyone who doesn’t want to know Hopper’s fate. Let’s get to it.

So, at the end of Stranger Things 3, after the audience believes that Hopper has died in the explosion under the Starcourt Mall, there’s a post-credits scene. In that scene, it’s revealed that the demogorgon, or a demogorgon, is still kicking in a Russian prison, and there’s a prison known as “The American.”

Hopper’s body was not found, and TV fans know what it means when there’s no body. Everyone was asking about Hopper’s fate and hoping he was somehow alive after the explosion.

Well, thanks to a report from Slashfilm, it looks like Hopper is still alive and sitting in that cell in the Russian prison. David Harbour confirmed as much in a recent interview with Slashfilm, and that seems to confirm what fans have been hoping for since finishing the season.

What this means for the future of Stranger Things is up in the air right now. Will the Hawkins Heroes try to save him? I can think of a few ways that they could figure out he was alive.

This revelation might ruin the anticipation for some fans, but I don’t think so. We’re bound to find out he was alive anyway in the near future. These secrets can’t stay hidden in the social media age. It only takes one person to take a picture of him grabbing a coffee or something in Georgia while Stranger Things 4 was being filmed, and we’d know he was still alive.

With that, I think this revelation only opens up more questions about the future of the series.

How did Hopper get to Russia in the first place? Was he taken right before the blast? Did the explosion knock him into the Upside Down, and then he was captured by the Russians? Did other Russians get thrown through the portal before it closed? There’s so much more to this development.

Plus, did anyone really think he was gone for good in this way? In the moment, it was super powerful, and in a way, that Hopper is long gone, but I didn’t think this show would really do that. The Duffer Brothers and the writers like to torture these characters, but there’s a few lines they won’t cross yet, or at all, and the time isn’t now.

It’s nice to know that Hopper is still alive, and I can’t wait to see where this story goes in the new season and how it all comes together.

There’s always a chance this is a misdirection play by the Duffer Brothers. Maybe they still don’t know who they want to be behind that door or they will change their mind at a later date. We don’t know for sure, and we probably won’t know for sure until it becomes public knowledge via Netflix or the Duffer Brothers.
