Eleven gets revenge at the lab

Eleven’s story really starts in the lab underneath the outskirts of Hawkins. It is here that we find Eleven being experimented on by Brenner and his goons. It is here that Eleven suffers some of the most traumatic things anyone could be subjected to.

She is forced to enter a strange alternate world via a giant tank of water, forced to spy on people many miles away, encouraged to use the telekinetic powers that hurt her, and perhaps worst of all, she is forced to stay here locked up against her will, a normal childhood stolen from her.

Because of all these things, when we finally see Eleven return some of the punishment she has received, it is definitely a fist-pumping moment. When Eleven “fails” one of Brenner’s tests (telepathically hurting a cat, which I hope anyone would “fail”), she is going to be brought back into solitary confinement by two guards when she unleashes her powers on them instead.

First, she crushes one of the guards against a wall and then snaps the other guard’s neck. It proves two things at once to the audience: One, that Eleven is not someone to be messed with, and when she sets her mind to something she can do just about anything. And two, that she is also potentially dangerous and since, at this point, we don’t know much about her we also fear her and fear for the boys who have met her and taken her in.

None the less, I think it’s safe to say that I’m just glad that the guards got that punishment from Eleven and not that poor cat, not that I think Eleven would ever hurt a cat though, just saying.
