The next episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is set to be a major one as it’ll determine what happens to the Leo Fitz who’s on course for the future. Will he survive? Find out more in our preview of Season 6, Episode 5 “The Other Thing” below.

Since ABC is airing the NBA Playoffs this week, there won’t be a new episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. And while we have to wait yet another seven days to watch “The Other Thing”, there’s a major question on fans’ minds: What is going to happen to Fitz?

Warning! Spoilers for the latest episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follow. Read on at your own discretion.

In episode three, Malachi (Christopher James Barker) and his Chronicom brethren took Fitz (Iain De Castecker) captive at the very last second. Fitz and Gemma (Elizabeth Henstridge) were moments away from being reunited when Malachi appeared out of nowhere, jettisoning off with Fitz before anything could be done.

The promo for “The Other Thing” shows Fitz being held at gunpoint by Malachi, except this isn’t just any gun. The projectile weapon being pointed at Agent Fitz will presumably disintegrate his entire body so there’s no hope of resurrecting him. In turn, correcting the time paradox created by his presence.

The good news is that Fitz’s destiny isn’t quite set in stone. He’s actually the one person with a life all his own.

Since Fitz was supposed to remain in cryogenic stasis until later in the future, his release from the chamber means his fate has changed. And considering he’s no longer needed to rescue Daisy or the others from Kasius, Fitz doesn’t need to go to the future at all. Because of that, Fitz can decide to do whatever he wants with his life.

Unfortunately, Fitz still has to contend with the Chronicoms before returning to his life with Gemma. They have him in a very vulnerable position, which could ultimately end with his demise. We’re hoping that’s not the case and that he and Gemma will live happily-ever-after but we’re waiting with baited breaths.
