Netflix has had huge success adapting novels into movies and shows. What books should they adapt next? Here are 5 books that need to be Netflix shows.

With the news that Netflix has acquired 50 literary projects, it’s clear they are not straying away from what they seem to do best: adapt books into hit films and shows.

With To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Dumplin’, and The Umbrella Academy, Netflix has been able to do what few other big studios have. They’ve adapted popular books and comics in movies and series without angering the fans! That is no small feat (just ask the Percy Jackson fandom).

But what could these new projects be? Based on their track record, rom-coms are clearly a favorite, but with the amount of popular fantasy, young adult, and historical fiction books released in the past couple of years, there are so many different genres Netflix could choose from.

A fantasy adaptation could bring audiences into new and magical worlds, allowing us to escape to somewhere new. Historical fiction could give them a chance to explore more history beyond what is covered in The Crown.

Young adult provides a chance to make shows about more diverse teens. And with the cancellation of One Day at a Time, Netflix could use more shows with diverse teens and their families.

Adapting books into TV series also provides Netflix with ready-made stories as well as fan bases that would flock to the streaming service. Who doesn’t want to see what they imagined while reading turned into something they can watch whenever they want?

Here are a few books we would love to see adapted into Netflix shows!
