It’s no secret that everyone is currently riding an Avengers: Endgame high at the moment, but when you’re not hitting the theater for your second or third (or fourth… no judgment) viewing of the epic superhero finale, you need a little something to tide you over. Olympus Has Fallen might not have any superheroes, but the 2013 action thriller has plenty of intrigue to tide you over. Kick off your summer with one of Netflix’s best new movie releases.

Gerard Butler stars in Olympus Has Fallen as former Army Ranger and current lead Secret Service agent Mike Banning. When heavily armed North Korean terrorists overrun the White House in a  dangerous attack, President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) and the rest of his staff are taken hostage, prompting Mike Banning to step up and save the day. He must not only find the president’s son but also rescue the president before the terrorists follow through with the plan that could take the White House down.

Olympus Has Fallen comes from director Antoine Fuqua, who directed such hit films as Training Day, Tears of the Sun, Shooter, and Southpaw. The film premiered in 2013 to lukewarm reviews from critics, earning a 49% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, the film was a box office hit, bringing in over $170 million against a $70 million budget. Olympus Has Fallen spawned the 2016 sequel London Has Fallen and the upcoming Angel Has Fallen. Before the latest installment, be sure to relive the original when it streams on Netflix this month!
