In the latest episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, the squad found themselves in the midst of a time-sensitive caper-one with more twists and turns than expected. Read on for more in our recap.

When “Ticking Clock” begins, this episode of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine takes a small break from the fun intro to establish an ongoing plot. There are still some hilarious exchanges between Hitchcock and Scully but that’s because the clock ticking on their lasagna in the microwave is the same amount of time that Captain Holt has to solve their case.

Holt learns from his tech analyst that someone is attempting to hack into their systems for confidential information on undercover ops. He can’t risk that information becoming compromised so a full investigation is launched. The only problem is the hacker is in the building but remains concealed in a public space. Jake, Rosa, and the squad proceed to search the entire building but come up with nothing.

With no potential suspects to consider, Captian Holt considers erasing the hard drives that contain all the vital information they were trying to protect. It’s a major risk as months of evidence and cases would be thrown out but something they need to consider. Holt deliberates over the dilemma until the clock winds down to its’ last few seconds.

The clock is about to reach zero when Holt receives a text message from Jake. He informs Holt that the IT guy is the hacker- he staged the entire incident to make his way into the precinct. In doing so, the criminal gained access to the system he sought to erase information from.

Once he’s ousted as the criminal hacker, Knox (Sean Astin) takes Holt hostage. He demands that the precinct Detectives step out of his way as he walks out. They appear to let him until Holt wrestles the gun from Knox. Jake jumps in with an assist and they arrest Knox for his cyber-crimes and recent attempted murder.

Oh, and in case you were wondering about Hitchcock and Scully’s lasagna, they eventually got back to it. Sadly, their garlic toast burned in the oven so they had to eat the pasta without toast.
