Netflix’s The Crown: Emma Corrin cast as Princess Diana

Emma Corrin will star as Princess Diana in the Netflix original series The Crown. Corrin will not appear in season 3, but she will make her first appearance in The Crown season 4.

Princess Diana is coming to The Crown, but that’s not exactly the big news about one of the best Netflix original shows. According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Emma Corrin will star as Princess Diana, also known as Lady Diana Spencer.

Corrin is still relatively unknown after roles in Misbehaviour and Grantchester, although that will change after she stars in Netflix’s The Crown, which one of the most popular shows in the world right now.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like Diana will be included in the third season of the series, which is scheduled to be released on Netflix later this year. EW is reporting Corrin will join the series in season 4, not in season 3.

Netflix announced the casting news via The Crown’s official Twitter account.

Corrin will join an entirely new cast of the series when she eventually makes her first appearance. Olivia Colman takes over Queen duties from Claire Foy in season 3, while Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter, Ben Daniels and more replace other cast members in the new season.

Casting Princess Diana had to be one of the hardest jobs in this series. Casting every character is tough to do, but it had to be even more challenging for such a beloved figure like Princess Diana. If they missed on this casting, it could have tanked the show. Behind casting Queen Elizabeth II, which they did very well with Foy and Colman, casting Princess Diana is the most important in this entire series.

As mentioned, The Crown season 3 is likely coming to Netflix later this year. It’ll probably be released around Thanksgiving, like the first two seasons. But, there’s a chance, since Netflix skipped a year of the series in 2018, that it could be released earlier in the year than that.
