Sadie Sink, the Stranger Things actress who plays Max Mayfield in the hit Netflix series, will now star in the second installment of Fox’s upcoming Fear Street series.

The Stranger Things stars continue to branch out in other projects. According to a report from Deadline, Sadie Sink, who was introduced in the second season of Stranger Things as the rebellious young Max, is now set to star in the second film in the upcoming Fear Street series from 20th Century Fox.

The three upcoming Fear Street films will all be directed by Leigh Janiak, best known for her TV work on horror shows such as Scream: The TV Series and Outcast.

So far, the cast will include Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald, and Jeremy Ford, according to the report. Production on the first film in the series has already begun in Atlanta.

It is interesting to note that while the report says that Sink will star in the second installment of the proposed trilogy, and she will not appear in the first film. This may suggest that the trilogy of films will take an anthology approach to its storytelling just like the original stories that the movies are based on did.

The Fear Street books were written by R.L. Stine and are the precursors to Goosebumps with the first book in the series published in 1989. The Fear Street books were aimed at a slightly older audience than Goosebumps, and eventually, the series became overshadowed by its more popular brother.

Despite these differences, the books were largely the same in format with each book being a different story, all featuring different paranormal antagonists and young adult protagonists and many included twist endings as well.

The books were still successful in their own right and have sold over 80 million copies. This upcoming trilogy of films will be the first time the books have been adapted to the screen despite their popularity. 20th Century Fox seems to be making up for this, however, by already promising audiences three films and now attaching A-list talent to the sequels before the first film has even hit theaters.

It remains to be seen if these films will live up to their literary origins, but having a talent such as Sink involved certainly can’t hurt.
