Netflix is testing a mobile-only streaming plan for a little more than $3 per month. According to reports, it’s only available in India right now.

Netflix for $3 per month? According to a report from Economic Times, Netflix is testing a $3-per-month, mobile-only plan in India. We’ve heard rumors and rumblings about this in the past, but this is the first time there’s a price attached to it and it’s been rolled out.

At the time of publishing, Netflix is only testing the mobile-only plan at this price in India. That’s a country where Netflix sees a ton of growth potential, and there have been dozens of programming additions to reflect that.

It’s unclear if this plan will ever be available anywhere. Netflix is always testing different features, and some, actually many, never make it to the masses. It does raise a few interesting questions, though.

Would you be interested in paying $3 per month for access to the streaming service? Of course, but would you still be interested if it was mobile-only? That’s the tough part of this equation.

For me, I couldn’t do mobile-only streaming. In fact, I barely ever use mobile streaming for Netflix. I’m almost always connected to Wi-Fi or watching shows and movies on the streaming service at home, and I’m almost never watching in public places where I don’t have a Wi-Fi connection.

I think most people are watching shows and movies on the streaming service in places with Wi-Fi, so there’s really no need for a mobile-only plan for those people. You can still watch on mobile with a regular streaming plan. But, if you are looking to cost costs and save some money, this would be a great way to do so. If the streaming network saw an opportunity here, I think they should and will make it available, especially in rural places where there’s not so great internet service.

We’ll be sure to let you know if this test ever comes to the US or expands to other countries. Stay tuned!
