Black Mirror season 5 casts Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Both superhero movie stars have been cast in the newest season of Netflix’s Emmy-winning series Black Mirror in unspecified roles.

Deadline reports that Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War actor Anthony Mackie has been cast in the upcoming season of the award-winning Netflix original series Black Mirror in an unspecified role.

According to the report, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II star of last year’s Aquaman, as well as 2017’s The Greatest Showman and Baywatch has also been cast in an unspecified role. We also don’t know if the two actors will appear in the same episode or two different episodes of the new season.

Netflix has been very quiet about the upcoming season of the show, and we don’t yet know too much about the new episodes of the popular series. One thing that has been hinted at is that Miley Cyrus would guest star in an episode, which is interesting because so far the only three cast members known to be in the new season are American.

This is different from past seasons (even three and four after Netflix owned the series) where most of the creatives in front and behind the camera were British. Being that the show originally hails from our neighbors across the pond, this made sense.

We saw more American influence in the show in season 4. In particular, the episode Arkangel directed by Jodie Foster. This news may hint at a continued American influence on the show.

Mackie can next be seen as the lead of the second season of Netflix’s Altered Carbon and maybe in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame. Abdul-Mateen is set to star in the Jordan Peele produced Candyman remake next year.
