New Stranger Things 3 game coming to Nintendo Switch on July 4

The Netflix series Stranger Things returns in July, but this time it will be accompanied by a video game, coming to the Nintendo Switch on July 4.

Fresh off releasing the new trailer for the upcoming third season, the Nintendo Direct broadcast showcasing upcoming games for its home/handheld hybrid console Nintendo Switch revealed Stranger Things 3: The Game.

The Stranger Things game will be released on July 4, the same day the new season is released on Netflix.

Developed by BonusXP, the game looks to be an old school style brawler beat-’em-up, where two friends can team up and fight thugs and solve puzzles together in the vein of Contra, Streets of Rage and Final Fight.

The puzzles look like a combination of synchronized button presses and switch pulling, along with using fists and weapons in order to take out the baddies. There appears to be various weapons and potentially different power-ups or moves, including Jim Hopper headbutting a large group of enemies. The art style is reminiscent of an earlier time, too, which goes well with the time period the third season is based in.

It’s unclear if thugs will be the only enemy in the game, or if there will be more spoiler type enemies coming that aren’t to be revealed until later, to save from spoiling the show. There is a bazooka going off in the new mall featured in the trailer, so time will tell what is ahead!

The game looks to be a good time for beat-’em-up fans and fans of the show, and with a friend alongside you, this could be a lot of fun. Stranger Things 3: The Game releases on the Nintendo Switch on July 4. There is currently no word if a Netflix app is coming to the Nintendo Switch.
