5. Princess Margaret — The Crown

When the character first appeared: Princess Margaret appeared in the very first episode.

A little about the character: Princess Margaret is the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. From the first moment, we get that tense sisterly relationship, jealous and annoyance that she’s not queen purely due to her being the younger sister.

She’s a woman of passion and wants to live her own life. Yet, she’s not completely willing to give up everything for the sake of love.

Why the character is a fan-favorite: While you would think Queen Elizabeth II would steal the show or even Prince Philip, it was Princess Margaret that quickly proved to be the one to watch. She instantly became a hit with fans because of her attitude and need to be “normal.” All she wanted was to marry the man she loved but what was she willing to give up for that.

Based on the true story of Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth, we got to see a woman who was unapologetic true to herself. Despite being the younger sister, she was the more dynamic of the two; the one who could have been considered born to be queen.

We quickly got to see her personality in the first episode. We saw the ups and downs of her life from her first moments on screen. There’s still more to come but Princess Margaret will be played by Helena Bonham Carter instead of Vanessa Kirby. It’s going to be interesting to see if we get some of the same personality and style that has drawn us into the princess.

Her flaws have made her a fan-favorite. Plus, there’s the sad story of the woman who couldn’t marry the man she wanted purely due to stipulations on the Royal Family.
