The Walking Dead season 9, episode 13 recap: Chokepoint
By Ariba Bhuvad
Daryl vs. Beta was the fight we never knew we wanted on The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead picks up this week following the epic escape orchestrated by Daryl and Connie in last week’s episode, “Guardians”. Basically, this week’s episode, “Chokepoint”, reminds us how annoying and horrible Henry is and has me waiting for the day he will make his exit from the series. After realizing that the Whisperers’ herd is a lot larger than Lydia let on, Daryl is flustered over what the next move should be. Going back to Hilltop is probably a bad idea and may put everyone in more danger.
Henry suggests that he and Lydia go their own way that way Alpha can’t blame the community for Lydia, but come on dude, do you actually think that would work? In an effort to hide from Alpha and the other Whisperers, the group finds refuge in an old building, that is until Beta shows up. A mini battle breaks out between the Whisperers and the group, but it’s not until Beta and Daryl fight that things really get started.
In what was probably the most epic fight scene in The Walking Dead history ever, Daryl and Beta rough it out as Beta demands that Lydia is given back to them. Unfortunately for him, not only does he fail to get Lydia back but Daryl beats him good and shoves him down a nearby elevator shaft.
As preps for the fair are in full swing, Jerry comes bearing some interesting news–they were ambushed by pirates that call themselves the Highwaymen. If the Kingdom wanted access to the roads, a toll would need to be paid to these men in the form of goods. Ezekiel and Carol end up visiting the pirates to strike a deal, and through some tough negotiations worked out a deal–the Highwaymen would get hired to protect and watch a movie in return (that’s really what won them over).

Daryl decides to lead the group to Alexandria so Henry can get patched up and have his injuries tended to. After this, they would continue to move along but there’s sort of problem–Beta is still alive.
