13. Rory Gilmore — Gilmore Girls

When the character first appeared: A series regular from the very first episode.

Why fans don’t like the character: Rory Gilmore makes on half of the two pillars of Gilmore Girls, daughter to Lorelei Gilmore. At first, she was sweet and a good introduction into the world of the series. Being young, she was able to make mistakes without too much judgment. After all, making mistakes meant that she could learn from them.

However, she didn’t end up learning from a lot of her mistakes. Rory became one of the most unlikable characters throughout the series. Her actions were often selfish in nature, not even stopping to think about how others would feel. Just sleeping with Dean when she was dating someone else and forgetting to end her engagement for two years made it clear that she wasn’t interested in being a better person.

While Gilmore Girls itself isn’t a Netflix Original, A Year in the Life was and that’s why I get away with including Rory on the list. And it’s A Year in the Life where most of the hatred came from. This whole special made it clear that Rory had never once realized that any of her actions were her own fault. While other characters had clearly grown from their younger years, Rory had stagnated and nobody was going to hold her accountable.

It’s one of the reasons some aren’t that bothered there hasn’t been a follow-up special. At first, there was hope Rory was a better person, but A Year in the Life was clear she wasn’t.
